Resource Recovery Solutions (RRS) (Derbyshire) Ltd has submitted plans to Derby City Council, which, if approved, will help Derby and Derbyshire exceed their joint recycling target of 55% by 2020 and divert up to 180,000 tonnes of waste from landfill per year.
RRS is looking to develop a state-of-the-art Waste Treatment Facility and Visitor & Education Centre at Sinfin Lane, Derby, which will generate enough renewable energy to power 14,000 homes. Plans were also recently submitted for a temporary Waste Transfer Station at Magfern's Yard, Derby to Derby City Council and a new Waste Transfer Station at Clover Nook, Alfreton to Derbyshire County Council. The proposals will create 38 permanent operational jobs along with 60-80 temporary jobs during construction.
Over the last three months RRS has been engaging with members of the public, local businesses and stakeholders on the proposals. Four public information days were held in Derby and Derbyshire, which were attended by over 250 local residents. A follow-up newsletter which provides an update on the outcomes of this engagement process will be issued in the next few days.
Blair Marriott, Project Director for RRS said:
"We have spent the last few months meeting people throughout Derby and Derbyshire and listening to their views on the proposals. From the outset we have been committed to engaging with as many people as possible and working with the local community to address any concerns they may have. I am pleased that many people have been keen to ask questions and find out more, and we will continue with this dialogue throughout the planning process."
Derby City and Derbyshire County Council will now undertake formal consultation on the three planning applications ahead of determination. It is hoped that decisions will be made on the applications in the summer.
